7 Tips For Contributing To Environmental Change

In our section “Home, sweet home” we propose some measures that can help us to reduce our ecological footprint, in addition to significantly changing our lives.

We are currently in a critical situation worldwide, since pollution levels are alarmingly high. Provoking that the need to reduce our environmental impact is paramount. It is necessary to take immediate measures in this regard. This change can start with very simple actions, such as the ones we present below:

Use of energy saving lamps . The saving lamps have become an excellent option, since they use only 25% of energy compared with the old bulbs, but without losing the amount they emit light. What is reflected in a great economic and energy benefit. Coupled with this change if you try to turn off the lights and disconnect the devices when you do not occupy them, you will notice a considerable reduction in the consumption of electrical energy.

Avoid the use of batteries. It is intended that the use of batteries can be avoided at all costs, since the metals and chemicals used are highly toxic, only one of these can contaminate up to 600,000 liters of water. In case you need to use batteries, it will always be a better option to use rechargeable batteries, since these will serve us a greater number of occasions and you will only have to buy them once.

Consume local products. Currently there are some itinerant markets and tianguis where small producers present their products so that consumers can know and buy them directly from them. The products you can find range from: fruits and vegetables freshly harvested, cheeses, herbs, meat, bread, jams, sweets, eggs, desserts, prepared food, among many others; these products in addition to representing a much healthier option, by the method in which they were grown, help to encourage and activate the local economy, since you can directly consume producers at fair prices and not through intermediaries or transnational companies that They sell products at a high price and even treated with chemicals, which can damage your health, to extend the useful life of the product.

Separating and recycling garbage. It is estimated that around 12 thousand tons of solid waste are produced daily in Mexico City, of which only 12% is recycled. As a result, several Barter Markets have emerged in Mexico, where, in addition to encouraging the separation of garbage, recycling is encouraged, since what may seem like trash for someone, for another person can be extremely useful. The recyclable waste can be divided into 7 groups, which are: glass bottles (transparent, amber, green and blue), combined paper and cardboard, cans and cans of aluminum, PET bottles (polyethylene terephthalate), tetrapak, electronic ( except monitors) and cooking oil in plastic bottles.

Use organic waste as a compost. As had been suggested in a previous article, the use of organic waste as a compost is an excellent way to use and optimize organic waste that would otherwise go to waste without representing any type of benefit.

Use plastic bags as little as possible. When we do shopping, it will always be a better option to order a cardboard box, since in this way we support that the use of plastic bags is less and less, that its useful life is too short and that it takes up to 200 years to degrade, causing endless ecological damage at that time.

You can give a second life to clothes that we do not use. You can use clothes that are in poor condition for cleaning and clothing that is no longer used but still in good condition, can be donated to people on the street who can serve them or to victims of a natural disaster, thus contributing to actively help them.
